Dogs are always welcome at The Marine. We cater exclusively to small and medium dogs, who need to be kept on leashes in public areas at all times. Dogs are accommodated in any room category that has a patio, including our mountain and sea-facing rooms. All rooms are fully equipped for the humans, too, with a host of amenities that make you feel at home from the moment you arrive.

On arrival, pets are given a welcome treat. They are also offered food and water bowls and a pet menu full of tasty dishes. With the exception of guide dogs, pets are not allowed inside our restaurants and bar. They are accommodated on the patio, however, where you can enjoy outdoor dining and drinks. Watch the sun go down over the ocean, indulge in our delectable dishes, unwind with a glass of wine or a cocktail and enjoy the sound of the waves with your furry friend by your side. Dog-Friendly Beaches & Walks

Beaches

Grotto Beach is a beautiful dog-friendly beach. This Blue Flag beach is great for all members of the family. Dogs are allowed on the beach, provided they stay on leash. For kids, there is a play park on the beach.

Sandbaai Beach is another great beach for dogs, kids and adults. Activities here range from angling to walking, seashell collecting and plenty of other fun things to do. Dogs need to stay on leashes.

Walks

The Marine has direct access to the Cliff Path – a great place for on-leash walks. This is also a good spot for whale watching, with magical views spanning across the bay. The path runs 11km along the coast, with plenty to see besides whales. Dassies and other small wildlife can often be seen on the path so it is essential that dogs are not allowed to walk off-leash.

Other places to enjoy a walk with your dog include the Blue Route within the Fernkloof Nature Reserve and the Botanical Garden. Dogs will need to stay on leads at all times and kept under control to make walks safe for all dogs, owners and visitors within nature areas. An on-leash walk around town will give you and your dog a chance to see why Hermanus has been ranked as one of the top holiday destinations in the Western Cape. Look out for the famous Whale Crier, take in the views and enjoy some fresh, sea breezes.
